Irritable Bowel Syndrome – Do you suffer from irritable bowel syndrome? Would you like a simple and easy way to reduce or even completely overcome your irritable bowel symptoms permanently? It had been scientifically proven that hypnotherapy can significantly help sufferers. This article tells you more about how gut-directed hypnotherapy for IBS can help you.
Irritable Bowel Syndrome
Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) is a disorder of the large bowel (colon) in which the bowel overreacts to a mild stimulus – such as eating or the presence of gas – by going into spasm. It is also known as spastic colon. If you suffer from IBS, you may experience abdominal pain, bloating and irregular bowel habits – including alternating diarrhoea and constipation.
IBS is extremely common, affecting as many as one in five of the population of Ireland. It is most common in people in their 20s and 30s, and affects more women than men. In some people irritable bowel syndrome is a mild annoyance, while in others it can be much more pronounced and quite embarrassing.
Irritable Bowel Syndrome Symptoms
- Abdominal pain which can be quite severe – pain may be relieved following a bowel movement
- Unusual bowel movements – intermittent diarrhoea and constipation
- Cramping – an urge to move bowels but an inability to do so
- Bloating sensation
- Excessive belching and flatulence
- Occasionally heartburn, nausea and vomiting also occur
Clinical Evidence Proves Hypnotherapy Is Effective
In 1997 the American Journal of Gastroenterology published a study (Gonsalkorale WM, Houghton LA, Whorwell PJ) which looked at 250 patients, who were given 12 hypno sessions plus home practice sessions.
Overall, the severity of IBS symptoms was reduced by half, and there were also marked improvements in quality of life, anxiety and depression.
The treatment that emerged from this study is now used effectively by many clinical hypnotherapists worldwide and is called gut-directed hypnotherapy.
IBS Treatment With Hypnotherapy
