If you suffer from facial blushing, anxiety or awkwardness in social or work situations, fear of being put “on the spot” or fear of being judged by others, a blushing cure may be available to you with the help of hypnosis and hypnotherapy. Hypnosis can help to spare your blushes and you may find that you blush no more.
Blushing – An Explanation
Blushing is your body’s natural reaction to strong emotions like embarrassment, anxiety or excitement. Everybody has the ability to blush but for most of us, it’s not really a problem – maybe we might remember blushing once or twice in our lives (normally when we are younger and not as confident) but most people would claim to have outgrown it in their adult lives.
For some people though, blushing is a very real problem and in severe blushers, there is actually an identifiable medical condition called idiopathic craniofacial erythema – this is where the person blushes for little or no reason. Blushing can also be associated with other symptoms such as excessive sweating and social phobia or social anxiety. The root cause of this blushing is your sympathetic nervous system which opens blood vessels wide in response to some emotion (eg. embarrassment). Then lots of blood rushes to your face, causing that familiar red face. Trying not to blush generally tends to only make the problem worse and make you feel even more embarrassed or anxious as you notice even more redness, heat, etc.
Blushing is outside of your conscious control. If you’re not too sure if this is true, then take yourself to some place where you are alone (such as your bedroom) and try as hard as you can to blush. Most people will find that impossible to do. This means that you can’t consciously control it or make it happen at will. So what part of your mind controls blushing? The answer is – your subconscious mind. Your subconscious mind is that part of your mind that controls your breathing, your heartrate and all of those automatic responses that you have.
That’s why it makes perfect sense to use hypnosis as a way to treat blushing. When you are in the relaxed state of hypnosis, you are accessing your subconscious mind and at this level of your mind, we can, in effect, rewrite the faulty piece of software in your brain that causes you to blush. What this will mean to you is that in those situations where you previously blushed, now you will have different reactions – perhaps even imagining diverting the blood flow from your face to some other part of your body instead.
“My blushing was such a horrible thing to have to live with, especially at work when I would have to make presentations. I used to cringe every time I felt the redness. After six sessions of hypnotherapy, I am a totally different person. I am so much more confident and those situations that used to cause me to blush now make me feel really confident. You have no idea how much you have changed my life for the better.”
